Over the year’s the words ‘firework’, ‘rocket’ and ‘fire’ have been the title, lyrics and various forms in hundreds of famous hit songs, as well as metaphorical references often describing love or emotions. Children of the 60’s will remember singing, ‘I’m just a hunk, a hunk of burning love’, teenagers in the 70’s shouted ‘relight my fire!’ whilst the youngsters of the 00’s told us, ‘baby you’re a firework’ and ‘your sex is on fire’.

When Katy Perry performed on one of the X-Factor live shows back in October 2010 no one could have predicted the outstanding success of her single ‘Firework’. It was instantly a radio and club hit, mainly due to its infectious chorus chanting ‘Baby you’re a firework’, as well as an exciting and sexy video in traditional Katy style. ‘Firework’ peaked at position 3 in the official UK singles chart and now, fourteen weeks after it was officially released, it still holds a top 20 place in the chart! Superstar rapper Drake is currently on tour and last night surprised his audience and fans at the Apollo Hammerstein in London by bringing Florence Welch, of Florence and the Machine, to sing hit song ‘Firework’ with him. ‘Fireworks’ is Drake and Alicia’s Keys’ hit song from 2010 – Alicia couldn’t be present on tour to sing her part in the chorus, ‘All I need is fireworks, every night its fireworks, taking off like fireworks…’ so when Florence attended Drake’s show as a fan on Friday Drake invited her to return the following day to duet on ‘Fireworks’ with him. Drake and Alicia Keys have joined forces again. This time the songbird and the former Canadian TV star, come rapper, are making musical magic on “Fireworks” the opening song from Drake’s debut album ‘Thank Me Later’ released back in 2010. Following an anticipated release, it debuted at number one in the US chart, selling 447,000 copies in its first week.
