New Website Coming Soon!

A couple of weeks ago we made an announcement that we are having a new website built for us. This website won’t be just a static website but a modern, responsive website built on the foundations of HTML 5. We are all very excited here at Black Cat and Standard Fireworks as each week through the design process we get to see live mock ups of the website. It’s looking very smart so far and we believe we will have the best website in the fireworks industry once it goes live!

Eden Agency is the name of the team behind our new website and they have been building amazing technical solutions since 2007. In February we met with Digital Director Craig Gilchrist and Web Designer Rhi Moxey to go over what we’d like from the website and the general look and feel of it. We decided we would like our new website to have an online based community feel to it where firework enthusiasts can join in on blog articles by providing comments and sharing their opinions and stories on social networking sites. We hope to provide a friendly online social area where you can learn more about what is going on in the fireworks world and of course involving Black Cat and Standard Fireworks.

There will be some interesting new additions to the website as well which we can not reveal yet but we are sure that they will be well received by all firework enthusiasts. So stay tuned and look out for an announcement in due time!

Chinese New Year 2014

Chinese New Year

There are many myths surrounding the invention and original use of fireworks but the most well known tale relates to Chinese New Year.  It is said that an interesting flame was produced when a Chinese cook accidently spilled saltpetre, which is an ingredient in gunpowder, into a cooking fire. This mixed with other ingredients used to create gunpowder such as charcoal and sulphur burned with a pretty flame in a fire, however once it was wrapped in a bamboo tube the mixture caused an explosion when set alight. Halloween Fireworks Competition Winner!

Last month we ran a Halloween Fireworks competition where we offered our existing and new Facebook fans the chance to win ÂŁ250 worth of FREE Black Cat & Standard Fireworks. All they had to do was guess the combined amount of shots in the two single ignition fireworks that were included in the prize and like our official Facebook page. We was overwhelmed with the amount of entries from people all over the UK!

On Wednesday 30th October we announced the luck winner: MAXINE ALLINSON from Pudsey!

Here is a lovely photograph of Maxine and her family collecting their fantastic prize at Black Cat HQ!

Whether you are having a public bonfire party, firework display or a private party at home, make sure you follow the Firework Code and keep everyone safe.

The Firework Code marks out what you must do when buying and handling fireworks.

The New-Age Firework Display Designer

Beautiful Fireworks

So you have been to a Pyromusical Display or what is more commonly referred to as a Musical Firework Display and have been left wondering how on earth the fireworks matched the music so perfectly and burst with every beat? You will have just witnessed a Designer’s fantasy come to life. For several months before the live display, the new-age designer will have been sat in front of a computer choosing and choreographing virtual fireworks to music from an inventory that replicates the real thing sat in his or her storage container. There are now a few software packages out there that allow designers to bring their Pyro fantasies to life. The real skill here that a designer must try to adhere to is to maintain a balance of imagination and sensibility. There are many questions a designer must ask themselves when designing a firework display in software; it is easy to get carried away. Here is a list of considerations a designer would definitely have to think about during designing with software:
